    The Park

Tucked away in the quiet streets of Kensington is a fully fenced playground and large kickabout area in Wills Reserve.

The playground consists of the older-style, brightly painted metal equipment; but there’s a decent variety to cater to different age groups, with children up to 11 years old getting the most value. The playground is fully fenced and covered in softball rubber. These are great points from a safety point of view!

The fenced play space is a decent size for a local park and manages to fit in a good range of equipment. It integrates imaginative, physical, social and free play principles.

For younger children, there’s a shop front, rockers and spinner. As for older children, they are catered to with the play unit, dual slides (which are always fun because they allow kids to race!), monkey bars, fireman’s pole and flying fox.

Other items are scattered through the park including talk tubes, a swing set, climbing net and balancing equipment.

A generous shared path winds its way throughout the park. Because the site is flat, the path is perfect for kids to ride their bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerblades.

The path hugs the grand, flat, kickabout space to the north of the playground.

A shade sail manages to shade the playground area, and mature canopy trees throughout the park provide additional shade and amenity. As well as canopy trees, there is there are grass plants and small shrubs throughout the reserve. We feel there has been a missed opportunity to better-integrate the planting with the playground.

Standard bench seats with backrests and armrests are placed throughout the reserve. There’s a seat table within the fenced playground, which is handy for parents and carers because it can act as a change table.

A fully fenced and shaded playground is always welcome! The kickabout space in Wills Reserve is generous and flat, offering an excellent spot for older kids to run or kick a ball.
