    The Park

Cassandra Crescent Reserve includes a playground filled with inclusive pieces that is tucked away in the local streets of Heathcote.

The main play unit is full of play value with something provided for a range of abilities. It includes a slide, low climbing wall, net platform, climbing frame, balance bridge and ground-level shop front. The majority of the play space is finished in synthetic turf, which also helps with accessibility.

Not included in the main play unit, the play space also includes talking tubes, a cognitive play piece, double bay swing set (including a basket swing). The variety of equipment helps develop a range of senses and skills including physical, social, sensory, and cognitive.

Not to be forgotten, there is also a nature play area tucked away at the back of the park made up of sandstone logs and timber steppers. The placement of this has been well considered and doubles as a quiet reflectory spot.

There is a concrete path that borders the play space. The path is mostly flat and is great for small bikes, scooters, skateboards and rollerblades to lap around.

Next to the play equipment is an open grass kickabout space, perfect for kicking a ball around.

A decent section of the play unit has a roof that provides shelter from the sun. As well as this, mature native plantings in the park provide plenty of natural shade. The placement of the park furniture takes advantage of this and often falls under the natural shade.

The play space has a low log fence to protect it from the adjoining local road, but it is not fully enclosed.

    Highlights

We love the inclusive play options that have been selected in this playground. The choice of synthetic turf on the ground, the ramp up to the play unit, raised platforms and the cognitive play piece help to broaden the the range of children who get value from the playground.
